PHIL & HANNAH’S WEDDING

We love Welsh weddings and we love Autumn weddings. Did you know we got married in November too? Add in an incredible church and Hensol Castle and you’ve got Phil and Hannah’s wedding day, which was dreamy.

Wedding morning

This time round I got to visit the men getting ready before it was time to go to Hannah’s folks. Usually I start with the girls and Malc heads over to the groom, so it was kind of fun to see what the guys get up to. I love the buzz of a wedding morning with people gathering, flowers arriving and excitement growing.

The ceremony took place at Hannah’s family church. Isn’t it gorgeous! The whole wedding was full of their faith and friends. Their vows, the sermon and singing were all lead by friends which made it really personal. Phil and Hannah headed downstairs with their witnesses to sign the register. Meanwhile upstairs two of Hannah’s friends sang and played the cello, it was such a peaceful moment.

After the service everyone walked round to the church hall for a feast of Welsh cakes and tea. Phil and Hannah cut the cake then we sent them off to Hensol Castle with a tunnel of confetti.

Wedding Reception at Hensol Castle

We took a wander by the lake for some couples photos. Phil and Hannah chatted about tree varieties, which is a conversation Malc and I have all the time on our Autumn walks. These little moments of normality, with a fairytale backdrop really delight me when we’re photographing weddings.

We warmed up inside Hensol Castle with photos of family and friends gathered on the staircase. We like to keep this bit nice and simple with an organised list which helps it to flow smoothly.

Everyone made their way to the Courtyard Hall, a beautiful room looking out onto a garden full of lights perfect for cosy vibe this time of year. Top tip from this wedding: feed the people! Phil and Hannah nailed it with refreshments straight after church and then the starters served before the speeches got started.

With the rest of the meal in our bellies (and a little break to digest it!) we moved on to the party. Cats Claw Ceilidh band were wonderful at drawing all the guests in, they got all ages up and dancing and it was proper good time. We set up our photo booth near to a whole book shelf of pic ‘n’ mix sweets. Hannah’s sister Lowri organised games in another room with a huge group game of table tennis which was great fun.

What a night! Hannah and Phil left on a high with a glow stick exit under the shelter of Hensol Castle’s porch.
