Bridget & Mike’S WEDDING in the Lake District
An outdoor Lake District wedding with pink dresses and proper party energy
It’s honestly a bit overwhelming to look back at this day and try to put it into words. Here’s my best shot, and the stop motion wedding video to help capture what I couldn’t possibly describe.
We’ve known Bridget for years. We’ve been to family weddings with her and kept in touch online. We’ve always loved her bubbly personality. She’s a magnet. Then she found Mike and asked us to photograph their wedding. They sent videos from the venue, Halecat House, just to show us how incredible it is. We were already obsessed.
We arrived in the Lake District the day before the wedding and got a peek at the ceremony space during the rehearsal. Every inch of the place is stunning, but it’s also dripping in history for Bridget, who spent childhood holidays there with her family.
The wedding was a whirlwind, a gloriously pink one, with kids running free and drinks flowing just as freely.
wedding morning preparations at halecat house
They stayed at Halecat the night before the wedding, which I think is the perfect way to get excited and cut some faff from your day. The girls and guys had separate rooms to get ready in, occasionally ducking out of each other’s way to hide surprises, and more often running into each other with excitement.
Bridget had separate rooms for hair and make up, which felt very Liverpool of her. The girls took a break from getting ready to practise the line dance they’d learned on the hen do.
The guys had jobs to do, not least figuring out how to tie Mike’s bow tie.
An Outdoor Wedding Ceremony in the Lake District
The girls spied out of their window as guests collected drinks and headed into the sunken garden for the ceremony. A tiny squad of flower girls and page boys assembled at the top of the stairs to meet Bridget and lead her down the aisle. Mike was standing there glowing with excitement as Bridget and her dad walked down.
The string quartet and the blue skies made it magical. There was even a pair of butterflies dancing over them as they said their vows. Halecat House is one of the most beautiful venues for an outdoor Lake District wedding ceremony.
I have no idea how he managed it, but Bridget’s cousin led them through the vows they had each written for the other. Afterwards, they led all the guests back up to the patio where cocktails were waiting and the cheers began. We mingled and took group photos, including one enormous all guest shot. I’m obsessed with the bridesmaids’ pink dresses under the blue skies, with the green of the Lake District behind them. Perfection.
Marquee Reception
As guests moved into the first marquee for the meal, we took a moment for Bridget and Mike to catch their breath away from the crowd, or so we thought. Their little page boys and flower girls quickly found them and wanted to get in on the photo action.
The speeches and meal were interwoven, which kept the energy flowing beautifully.
We even managed another moment to slip away and frolic in a field with Bridget and Mike before dessert. They even picked a few berries, what a dream.
Liverpool Energy & A Surprise Guitar Performance
The two marquee setup at Halecat House works brilliantly for couples planning a relaxed outdoor wedding in the Lake District. Everyone moved into a second marquee for the party. It started with Bridget and Mike’s first dance, and in no time the dance floor was full. We love a Liverpool crowd for their enthusiasm and party vibes.
We started the photo booth in the corner of the marquee and it did not stay quiet for long.
Our wedding photo booth is designed to feel relaxed and a bit chaotic in the best possible way. No stiff poses. Just friends piling in, props appearing from nowhere and laughter escalating with every frame. Guests get prints of their pictures to keep, and they stick copies in the guest book alongside their messages for the bride and groom.
The band were friends of Bridget and Mike, and they even brought their dad to DJ between sets. There were so many highlights on the dance floor. Pink Pony Club with a heap of inflatable pink hobby horses. The bridesmaids and hens showing off their line dancing skills. But the best moment of all was Bridget’s face when Mike grabbed a guitar and joined the band on stage. He’d secretly learned some songs and was ready to play. She had no idea it was coming.
The night rolled on with pizza and chatting out in the dark. There were plenty of silly antics and races on the lawn. We even got packed off with a bottle or two of Bridget’s dad’s homemade elderflower champagne to sip when we were off duty.
A top day, and we can’t think of anyone better for it.
A Stop Motion Wedding Film in the Lake District
For Bridget and Mike’s Lake District wedding, we created one of our stop motion wedding films, something we don’t get to make often but absolutely love when we do.
Very few wedding photographers offer stop motion films, and we’re slightly addicted to them. Each film is carefully crafted from thousands of still images, sequenced to create a three to five minute mini movie that feels artistic, playful and full of life. It’s a different way to relive a wedding day. Less traditional video, more moving storybook.
For a colourful outdoor Lake District wedding like this one, stop motion felt perfect. The pink dresses, the butterflies, the marquee dancing and the surprise guitar solo all translate beautifully into a handcrafted film that’s full of energy.
If you’re curious about how these work, you can explore more of our stop motion wedding films here or browse our full stop motion playlist on YouTube where you’ll see how each one has its own personality.
We think they’re a really unique way to capture your wedding day.
