Andrew & Sophie’S WEDDING in Worcestershire

A DIY Field Wedding Full of Sunshine, Friends, and Proper Summer Energy

This wedding was packed with DIY details and the kind of relaxed, make-it-your-own energy that only comes when friends really rally around a couple. With a church ceremony followed by a celebration in a borrowed field, it was warm in every sense of the word.

wedding morning preparations

The morning started at a rented cottage, with hair and makeup taking place in seriously hot conditions. We deployed all our best tricks (fan up the skirt, standing in a bucket of water) to try and keep everyone cool. This summer’s weddings should have been sponsored by my handheld fan if we’re all honest. There was lots of laughter, plenty of breaks, and that easy excitement that builds when everyone knows it is going to be a good day.

Meanwhile the gents were over in the field putting the finishing touches in place and getting dressed in swelteringly hot tents. People who’ll do that for you are proper friends.

The ceremony took place at St Peter’s Church. Kids played happily at the back while at the front Andrew and Sophie said the words to make it official. After the ceremony, we snuck away briefly so the couple could grab a photo with her cousin before she headed home, which was a cute little moment. Outside, guests lined up to blow bubbles as the newlyweds made their exit.

From there, everyone headed to the field that friends had generously offered up for the reception. Guests were greeted by a huge balloon arch and a friend serving ice cream, which was exactly what everyone needed in the heat. It was one of those arrivals that instantly makes people smile.

The sun was relentless, but the setup was thoughtful and guest-focused. Hay bales gave everyone somewhere to sit, fans were dotted around to help keep cool, and there were games and toys ready for the kids to dive straight into. It felt relaxed and welcoming, with people spreading out and settling in at their own pace.

Food was served as a hog roast buffet, following speeches that were heartfelt, funny, and full of affection. Oh and one slightly awkward prop which got added to the wedding cake display. At various points, we snuck off to the walk-in fridge, which was there partly to keep the drinks cool and partly to cool the humans too.

As the evening rolled on, the dance floor got a wiggle on. By this point, most people were feeling the heat and taking things easy, dipping in and out rather than going full tilt. One of our favourite little moments was sharing watermelon with a small guest on the dance floor, swapping slices between dances.

Later on, a few of the guys headed outside for cigars while others gathered around the photo booth. With the couple’s own props and DIY decor, it became a real hub of laughter and silliness, exactly as intended.

It was one of those weddings where nothing felt rushed and everything felt considered. Built with help from friends, shaped by the weather, and full of small, human moments that made it unforgettable.
