Sarah & David's wedding | St john the Baptist church, Leicester and Norton Fields Barn

A joyful Leicester church wedding followed by a laid-back barn party in Atherstone.

Their engagement photos

Sarah and David’s wedding day began in the heart of Leicester and ended with dancing, garden games and a sparkler send-off at Norton Fields Barn in Atherstone.

We met up with David in Clarendon Park just before the ceremony, outside The Flower Corner where he was collecting the bouquets. It was a short walk back to the church with him and the groomsemen, a fun little mission before the service got started.

What a stunner of a church for a wedding! It’s a tall stunning room with space for all their guests (there were loads). Sarah and the bridal party made quite the entrance. We loved their service. Two of our past wedding couples were in the crowd with their children, which made it extra special for us.

Afterwards, we gathered everyone at the front of the church for a big group photo, Malc directing from the balcony to get the shot. Then it was time for tea and cake. We whole-heartedly endorse wedding days with two cake sections, just in case you were considering it.

We called everyone outside for confetti to send Sarah and David off to their reception.

their wedding reception at Norton Fields Barn, Leicester

There’s heaps of space at Norton Fields Barn so we got to do some exploring for pictures with Sarah and David. It was quite blustery, which knackered our umbrella but worked wonders for Sarah’s dress. We love the views across the fields. Sarah went off for a little rest while the guests arrived. Let’s take a moment to say this is such a good idea. If you know that you’ll find a full-on wedding day tiring, planning in a break will help you look forward to the day and handle the pace of things.

Guests got stuck into crazy golf, and the team brought round drinks and canapes. We gathered some family group pictures (inside for a more sheltered option).

Dinner was delicious (their caterers, The Pantry, do an excellent veggie wellington). Speeches followed from the bride, groom, dad and best man. There was a brief pause in the middle while David ran out of the room to change into his shorts and flip-flops. No one who knows him was surprised by that - it’s his trademark look - and they were giggling when he insisted his groomsmen put flip-flops on too.

They cut the wedding cake and took to the dancefloor for the first dance (yes David was still in flip-flops). The band wasted no time in filling the dance floor, and once it was full it pretty much stayed that way.

We ran our photo booth during the evening reception, complete with guest book ready for messages. Friends piled in, prints were handed out and the energy only climbed higher.

The food van served hog roast and waffles for some evening food. And guests chatted outside round roaring fire pits.

We gathered guests one last time for a sparkler exit. Sarah and David walked through a tunnel of light before heading off into married life, leaving behind one very happy crowd.
