Paul & Claire’S WEDDING, the upper house hotel stoke on trent

Their engagement photos

A stop motion wedding for you to enjoy today from the beautiful Upper House Hotel in Stoke, complete with a wood full of bluebells. There’s even a sprinkling of Star Wars details for you to spot on Star Wars Day - May the Fourth be with you!

We hope you enjoy the stop motion movie above and read on to hear our whole story of their wedding day.

wedding morning preparations

I’d say you’re pretty lucky if you have a hair dresser in the family, especially on your wedding day. Claire’s brother in-law popped up in a few places to sort out hair for the children and one of his team did hair for the bride and her bridal party.
They had a great time getting ready at the hotel where the wedding was taking place, with a hair and makeup room attached to the bridal suite for them to use. They even took a little break to drink champagne on the balcony together.

Paul and the chaps got ready at the couple’s home, downed a quick whisky, and drove over in a beautiful car together.

the wedding ceremony at the upper house hotel

The ceremony was really sweet. It kicked off with the page boys power-walking down the aisle to bringing the rings (in an Imperial Death Star-shaped ring box of course). Next came the bridesmaids and Claire followed with her Dad.

The vows had tears in everyone’s eyes. Paul and Claire have been through a rough year and it was great to be at this point, especially with all their family there to watch. Even the registrar got a bit emotional watching them together.

Which brings us to Paul’s wedding gift. How lovely is this? Paul had predicted that it was going to be an emotional day so he’d secretly contacted Charlotte (Charlotte Bradley Makeup) and booked her to be around throughout the day for make-up touch ups as and when they were needed. We hope it’s obvious that we love Paul. He’s so thoughtful!

their wedding reception

So it was time head outside with everyone for a rowdy confetti tunnel and then a big photo of all the guests. The Mighty Jamma got the steel drums going, and I’m sure they were responsible for the sunshine on what was forecast to be a grey day. People chatted with drinks and canapés while we took some relaxed family group photos on the lawn. The kids had a great time exploring the gardens.

We took Paul and Claire for some time away from their guests, sneaking up the hill up to see the bluebells in the woodland.

Everyone made their way to the wedding breakfast. The room was beautifully decorated with gorgeous table flowers (Sweetpeas and Peonies did an incredible job, we are smitten with her work). Guests had a good giggle finding their seat: the table plan was an old photo of each guest, the more embarrassing the better. They had to find to their picture to find their seat. Great fun!

The meal was delicious. Their tables were named for family members no longer with us, and it was lovely to hear stories of grandparents and loved ones being shared around the room. Then it was time for speeches, another emotional moment, and what an opportunity to say thank you and share the love they’d experienced over the last year.

Watch this fun bunch making the most of the photo booth props.

Paul and Claire took a few minutes to rest before meeting their evening guests at the door. It was a fun night with some guests hanging out in the gardens of Upper House Hotel. The dancefloor was ready for them to take their first dance and their guests wasted no time joining in.

Back in the ceremony space, we set up the photo booth and they had the buffet and some casino tables for even more fun.

Congratulations on your first anniversary Paul & Claire! With love, Nom x
