the first time

The first time I ever took a photo at a wedding, I guess I was about eight. My beautiful Sunday School teacher was getting married in our church. I don't remember the day much, but I treasured the photo for years. (Shot on a 35 mm camera I was using at the time, mostly to photograph little friends, stuffed toys and dens).

#11: Say "Goodbye!"

Even the cake was in tiers is our series tips for weddings. The title comes from an overused and not so funny wedding speech joke, "It's been an emotional day...". What advice did you wish someone had told you before your wedding? We're collating all the etiquette and expertise here.

Its been a long emotional day and their baby daughter has just flown the nest. It's no wonder the parents often end up in tears at the end of the night. One thing that really helps: make sure you say a really good goodbye. Take time to talk to both sets of parents before the announcement is made that you're leaving (and you get swamped by other guests).

There are loads of other fun ways to say goodbye to everyone, we've seen plenty of tunnels, confetti, sparklers even special dances which allow you to greet each of your guests.

#4: Don't be Shy

You've just got married for goodness sake, you're wedding is the one day where you should drop your usually strict ban on PDAs and show how much you're in love. Holding hands, kissing, whispering and giggling all strongly recommended.

#1: Belly Button Thumb

Even the cake was in tiers is our series tips for weddings. The title comes from an overused and not so funny wedding speech joke, "It's been an emotional day...". What advice did you wish someone had told you before your wedding? We're collating all the etiquette and expertise here.

We must have mentioned this to each of our brides; because its something to focus on in the most nervous minute of the big day. As you walk down the aisle make sure your thumb is inline with your belly button, which will make sure your flowers are at the right height. It'll help you to have something to think about, something to hold and stop you looking really nervous with your flowers hiding your face!

If you're having an unusually shaped bouquet you might want to ask your florist how best to hold it, after all they designed it so they'll know what they had planned. And if its inspiration you're after then check out this Pinterest board from Conservatorie Floral, a Florida Florist who've pinned some amazing bouquets.

Matt & Fran's Wedding Preview- with limerick!

Matt & Fran got married last weekend. The rain held off so we got to pop down to the Bear Pit in The Botanical Gardens, Sheffield (where they had their first date!) to take some pictures.

We wrote a little limerick in celebration of the occasion and there's also a setting up video for you to enjoy.

There once was a girl name Fran,
Who met a very nice man.
For a first date they sit
In Sheffield's bear pit
And then Matt came up with a plan!

Fran then went to Venice with Matt,
And in a hotel room they sat,
Then down on one knee,
He said "Marry me?"
And his Mum had to buy a new hat.

So, in July they were wed,
Together for years ahead.
Exchanging their rings
And everyone sings,
"I do" they both gladly said!

Together as man and wife,
Off on holiday free from strife
Fran and her new man,
Got a nice glowing tan,
And began their new married life!

Ian & Francesca's Wedding now online

10 reasons why Ian & Francesca's wedding was amazing (and why you should look at it here)

1. Their wedding cake was 16 layers high, decorated with bunting and flags.
2. Each guest's place setting had a ball of playdoh for modelling as they wished.
3. They'd really thought through the wider impact of their wedding and majored on recycled options and fantastic fair trade products.
4. Their reception venue was a play farm where Fran used to work. They utterly transformed the breeze-block barn with lights and balloons. (This is their venue) There were baby animals!
5. They had a second cake- 5 tiers of cheese.
6. The whole wedding party wore Tom's.
7. The first dance was a flashmob style barn dance with their bridesmaid, groomsmen and groomsmaids all taking part. (This is their band). Later all their guests danced in a circle round them an sprinkled good wishes on them.
8. They served made-to-order stone baked pizzas as their wedding breakfast. (These guys where great)
9. They also had food stalls around their reception room with pic 'n' mix sweets, gourmet popcorn (from here) sampling, cheese wedding cake and jars of jelly and ice-cream.
10. Each car load of guests completed a car quiz trail on the way to the reception, following clues and competing for a box of prizes.
